With reference to the last 3 paragraphs of
your despatch No.75 of the 16th.of March, I have the honour to forward the enclosed tracing, taken from a map of the
boundary of the Leased Territory made from actual survey
▾
by an Officer of the Imperial Maritime Customs, which shows accurately the course of the Sham Chün River.
1. The maps in existence of the New Territory are not based on surveys and are therefore not accurate.
3. The map forwarded in Sir h.A.Blake's despatch
No.9 of the 9th of January was partially corrected from the
: Survey of the Northern boundary made for the Chinese Customs, but does not correctly show the bend in the Sham Chun River which causes the stream to flow South of the Village of Lo 5.
4. I have not access at the present time to the
nap attached to the Convention, but the Director of Public . Works who has seen it states that it is extremely inaccurate.
5. The Meridian of 113° 52' E. Longitude does in fact pass clear of the peninsula which forms the Western shore of Deep Bay, and it has been found by observations which the. Acting harbour Master and a Naval Officer have recently made at my request that the Longitude at the Western Extreme of the South West Point of the Peninsula
a
is 113° 58′ 29′′.7 E.
will follow.
6. I enclose a tracing from the Admiralty Chart shewing where this meridian cuts the coast.
